Things are going mostly well so far through this pre-game period. I think I have managed to plan out well enough that the few curveballs that have come my way were addressed easily and quickly enough.
I've got lingering concerns about how the first week will play out and there have been a few questions raised about the safe-zones and self defense rules and so forth, but I've addressed those on an individual basis so far and I'm hoping that it won't be necessary for me to tamper with the rules text at this point (not that everybody's actually read it anyway...).
I think I've been too committed to inclusiveness and being nice in letting people register late. On the one hand, I do want to get as many people as I can, but on the other it's created a lot of headaches I could have avoided if I just said "No" to everybody who was late. In the future I think I'll be willing to be much stricter. I also expect that in the future there will be slightly more lead time as a week was a bit short. Not so much that people might initially express interest and then back out though. So far the rate of withdrawal is almost zero which I hope is a good indicator that people continue to be engaged and interested.
It's also fascinating to me to see how everybody heard about this and to identify who the really active social hubs are. I wonder if that will prove to be correlated with success or difficulty in this game.
